Her Light in Native Colours is the Australian chapter in a series of international women artist’s exhibitions entitled, Her Presence in Colours. The series has been held internationally since 1993, with Manningham Gallery playing host to one of the chapters in 2004.  Ms Yuen Chee Ling, artist, and the Director and Principal of the Conservatory of Fine Arts in Penang, founded the Her Presence in Colours series of international women artists exhibitions, when she successfully organised the first exhibition at the Gallery of Central Institute of Fine Arts, Beijing, China, in 1993.

 – Her Presence in Colour VII, , Australian Chapter, has been organised by the International Women Artists’ Association – Australia Incorporated (INWAA - Australia), with assistance from Manningham Council through its Community Development Grant Program.

Local artist and Chair of INWAA - Australia, Sandy Angliss said the Association aims to assist women from diverse backgrounds to participate in professional, thought provoking and educational art exhibitions.

“This year’s theme was chosen by renowned Korean textile artist, Professor Kim, during her visit to Melbourne for Her Presence in Colour VI in 2004,” she said.

“Professor Kim chose this theme to encourage female artists to explore and celebrate the ideas of family and cultural background.”
