Artists’ statement:
My work begins with a thought, which provides the impetus for a series of
automatic scribblings. Chance shapes or forms appear in the layers of lines,
these found images are then refined and juxtaposed together in a separate drawing.
The finished image operates as an exposé of my unconscious as it forms free association between the found elements within the picture. The thought was to draw a portrait of my daughter and her then partner, according to their birth sign within the Chinese calendar.
‘The Relationship’ is a portrait from my unconscious, which portrays the relationship between the two protagonists – this work is very CLOSE TO THE HEART.
