Artists’ Statement:

In my slow walks in the bush, along the seashore, once, even, in the desert, I come across small fragments of nature, and marvel at the immense variety of forms, colours, patterns, textures.

Over the years these were stored casually in bags and boxes, along with the wooden animals lovingly carved by poor people in other countries.

One day, with no particular plan, I began arranging them.

The final results, the computer/jigsaw with its roving mouse, can be seen as a piece of whimsy. At a more contemplative level it reminds us of the mystery and fragility of nature, with its continuous transformations.

In this year 2004, over one thousand plants and animals in Australia are officially threatened with extinction.

We must care for the earth, nurture and reverence it.

It is out heritage. We are its guardians.
