¡®Devil Dance¡¯ is Sri Lanka¡¯s ancient & cultural dance. ¡®Devil Dance¡¯ is not designed to entertain; it mentally manipulates the community and the patient. This ritual is still believed to be effective psychiatric treatment. If somebody proves sick, his/her family arranges the ¡®Devil Dance¡¯. All the villagers are invited. This ceremony starts after dinner and finishes at midnight. The sick person sits on a mat with others. Dancers wear the intricately carved ¡®devil mask¡¯ and red clothes. They dance accordingly to the rhythmic beat of the drums and several blessings. Villagers hold torches so that the darkness of the night is drowned out for the dance ground. This scene was absolutely beautiful and induced feelings so wonderful to me. I suppose the recollection is vivid in my memory, because I can remember the mysterious, beautiful masks the dancers wore.  This incident is never forgotten to me and ¡®Life of Colours¡¯ brings into light my childhood memory.
