To the Participants of IN HER COLOURS IX – USA 2010

Re:  Invitation to participants of IN HER COLOURS IX International Women Artists Exhibition – USA 2010, art conference and cultural interaction, art gallery and art event tours, and opening reception at the Littman Gallery at Portland State University, Oregon,  USA.

We have the great pleasure of inviting you to share with us “In Her Presence Colours IX- International Women artists Exhibition – USA 2010” to be held at Littman Gallery, Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, USA commencing August 1- 8, 2010.  You are welcome to the USA to attend the opening reception, the art conference, field trips and art gallery tours.

The theme, Self  Portrait-Reflection of Self” is to promote and provide women’s art onto another level of intensity and to throw a powerhouse exhibition.  Also the hope is, not to compromise or to repeat the same wheel or pattern that we have done before.  It was conceived out of the desire to elevate and promote women’s needs in art, which is what In Her Presence in Colours exhibition series has been about all these years.  We wish the exhibition in the USA to be solely about the personal experience in creating and making art, how it relates to our real experiences, and to push us forward with an aesthetic meaning in our work.  Our aim is to seek art work that speaks about inner thoughts of women, and not to rely on the conventions of “safe art”.

Meanwhile, we look forward with excited anticipation, not only in receiving your “self portrait” for the exhibition, but also your presence in Portland to attend the opening and its related events – like an art conference, field trips and cultural interactions amongst the artists from various ethnic backgrounds, cultures and religions.  As the local organizers, we will arrange for accommodations and activities around the city where women artists can freely participate.  All participating artists can take their work with them back home after a week of stay.  However, we would welcome artists to choose another option,   i.e. # 1.  to leave their work up for the month, since it is advertised as an International show for the month of August, and to have it shipped home at the end of the show.   Or   #2.  to donate it to OWCA for fund-raising, which creates “good will” and  will help pay for all the expenses that occur when putting on such an event.

We are all looking forward to meeting you here in Portland, Oregon and sharing this very special event.

With warm wishes,

Una Kim & Karen Swallow   (Co-organizers)
