A Northwest coast native,
Nancy Higgins has immersed herself in the floral and fauna found in
abundance in the west coast. Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon she participated
in the New and Upcoming Artist exhibition in 2005, since then she has
also participated in numerous solo and group shows.
Most of my work is inspired by the four primary elements, earth, water,
air and fire and the primal connection we all have to these forces in
nature.
My mixed media paintings continue the exploration of ideas that form the
foundation of a larger body of work that has as its focus each
individual element, and the tiers and layers that are found in nature
everywhere.
Through the use of a variety of different media that includes both oil
and acrylic paints, metal leaf and collage, my paintings are a
reflection of the connections between these elements, the texture and
true essence of their respective expressions as they are reflected in
and by nature. The landscape of the Northwest is a great source of
pride, comfort and peace; with my paintings I strive to establish the
beauty, the sacredness and the connections we have with all living
things.
We are put together emotionally and physically in tiers and layers. The
image is about outer
and inner layering, that which protects our heart and soul, the life
source and foundation of all
living beings, all living things. Although we may be divergent
characters,we are all beings created
within the same framework and are the same Tiers and Layers, each of us
needing our "little" spaces of our own. The spaces that allow us to
meditate and develope the sacredness that is ourselves. |
