Born in Antwerp but
having spent her childhood in Africa, Josepha Waem studied painting and
drawing at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of her hometown where she got her
diploma with honours. In 1968, she first came to Paris where she worked
in films as an actress, as a dress designer and as a model while
pursuing her painting career. In 1972, she moved to Los Angeles where
she concentrated on etchings on themes such as Hotel Room, under the
skin and lipstick. In San Diego and San Jose, she also exhibited her
soft sculptures (whose installation was filmed by French television).
While in California, she also executed a series of portraits of film
stars. When she returned to Paris in 1985, she continued exhibiting
works on paper in Brussels, Antwerp and Amsterdam. She has been creative
director the major advertising firm Euro RSCG since 1991. |
