Artist statement

The Wedding Feast is a painting, which conveys feelings of both stillness and vibrancy. It celebrates the precious gift of Peace through the use of marriage as a metaphor.

My work explores the interconnecting relationship between the external and internal world of life’s natural cycles such as the seasons, night and day, growth and decay, fragility and strength. These themes are inspired by the luminous colours and patterns of Illuminated Manuscripts of many cultures, Celtic Art and Icon Painting.

“婚礼盛宴”传达谧静和生动的情绪内涵。以婚礼的隐喻意义作为庆祝和平的象征。 我的目的是探讨自然界内在和外在相互关系，例如四季代序、日夜交替，生与死，盛和衰。这些主题的灵感来自各种文化，凯尔特艺术和圣像画传统的图案和抄本彩色插图的色彩和图案。

Her Presence in Colours VIII, Beijing, will be the third time that Roma has participated in an International Women Artists’ exhibition.

For many years Roma has worked as a freelance illustrator for several publishing companies on both adult’s and children’s books, and has worked creatively with an Australian woman writer on thematic collections of poetry. She has produced books (sometimes as objects of art) including writing, illustrating and construction.

Roma graduated in painting (Diploma of Art and Design) at Prahran College of Advanced Education in Melbourne in 1975. She has had experience in various styles and mediums such as gouache, coloured pencil, pen and ink, watercolour on paper, and acrylic and oil on canvas. She has participated in various workshops including watercolour, bookbinding, writing and traditional Chinese painting.

Roma has been active as an artist in her community from the mid 1980’s, teaching drawing and painting classes for all age groups in primary and secondary schools and in art material suppliers’ workshops. She has exhibited her paintings and drawings in various group shows around Melbourne.

Born in 1954 in Australia, Roma grew up and still lives and works in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. Her work is collected privately.
